A sequel to Na Hong-jin's sci-fi action film 'Hope,' which gained significant attention at the Cannes Film Festival, is already in development, according to the director.

Sequel Script Completed

During a press conference on Monday, the Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin revealed, "I think you can readily imagine this sequel. And there's a script that's already been done that I'd like to shoot. So if I have the opportunity, I would indeed make a sequel if possible."

Star-Studded Cast

'Hope,' a high-budget production, features Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Hoyeon Jung, alongside Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton. The film combines gritty survival narratives with a unique sci-fi mythology, featuring Fassbender, Vikander, and Russell as CGI aliens invading Earth.

Actors' Motivation

During the press conference, Alicia Vikander explained her motivation for joining the project. "I just fell in love with Asian cinema," she said, referencing her experience at the Busan Film Festival and her admiration for Na's previous work, 'The Wailing.' "I was intrigued," she continued, describing her immediate decision to join the project when Na approached her years later.

Michael Fassbender humorously added, "Alicia told me to do it," eliciting laughter from the audience. Taylor Russell, also influenced by Vikander, expressed her desire to work in foreign films and with visionary directors like Na. "It is kind of beyond a dream," she remarked, sharing her excitement about working in Korea and potentially learning the language.

Na's Persuasive Efforts

Na Hong-jin acknowledged the efforts he made to persuade the actors, "Alicia and Michael and of course Taylor as well, all these three characters really have their own world." He expressed his admiration for Michael Fassbender, stating, "One of the actors I love and I admire most is Michael, so I really wanted to work with him."
