Tom Holland recently opened up on the Dish Podcast about the challenges of promoting films he isn't fond of, contrasting this with his excitement for current projects like The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Proud of Recent Projects
Holland expressed his joy in promoting The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, saying, “When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy. Because when they ask you questions about why should people go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone. You really feel like people should go see it.”
He noted that this hasn't always been the case. “I’ve had experiences before when people say, like, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s shit,’” he added, laughing.
Success with 'The Odyssey'
Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and stars Matt Damon as King Odysseus. The film has been a box office success, grossing over $600 million globally. It features a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and others. Holland plays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, and has been learning from his experienced co-stars, especially enjoying his time with Anne Hathaway.
Upcoming 'Spider-Man' Release
With The Odyssey already in theaters, Holland is focusing on promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to release on July 31. The film reunites him with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, portraying Peter Parker navigating life alone as Spider-Man in a world that has forgotten him.
Holland described promoting these films as a “victory lap,” expressing his pride and enjoyment in the process. His latest efforts stand in stark contrast to the more challenging experiences he's had with films he's less enthusiastic about.
