Coogler, a self-proclaimed fan of the original series created by Chris Carter, shared his enthusiasm on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, calling it “one of the most beautiful American television shows ever made.” On the potential for new episodes to resonate, he told Last Podcast on the Left that “some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really scary,” according to Variety.
New Faces in Familiar Roles
The pilot for Coogler's iteration wrapped recently, featuring Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler as new FBI agents. Patel, who gained attention in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, confirmed in an interview with The Direct that the duo will explore America's paranormal mysteries. “Myself and Danielle Deadwyler are playing completely new characters, and we just wrapped on the pilot,” he shared. “If we do get to do more… We’ll see where we go from there.”
Original Cast Involvement
Fans of the original series will be pleased to hear Coogler has been in discussions with Gillian Anderson about a potential return. “She's incredible, and fingers crossed there,” Coogler told Variety. Meanwhile, David Duchovny expressed support for the project during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, though his involvement remains uncertain. “There have been talks about certain things, but there’s nothing concrete at this point,” he noted.
Speculation and Future Plans
Despite the excitement, the series is not yet confirmed beyond its pilot, which was shot on 65mm film by Oscar-winning cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw. World of Reel suggested Coogler might extend the pilot into a feature film for theatrical release, echoing his previous efforts with Sinners. However, these plans remain speculative.
