Kristen Stewart and Woody Harrelson's latest film, 'Full Phil,' directed by Quentin Dupieux, received a five-minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere, showcasing their star power in the Palais.

Star-Studded Premiere

The film, an absurd father-daughter comedy, premiered to a full house, with loud applause greeting Dupieux and his cast, including Charlotte Le Bon and Emma Mackey. The midnight screening audience was eager to see their favorite celebrities on screen. Despite the surreal comedy eliciting laughter, it seemed to fall flat with the crowd, resulting in polite applause as the credits rolled.

Standing Ovation

When the lights came up, the audience stood and cheered, particularly for Stewart, who engaged fans by pulling faces at the camera and waving, attempting to shift attention back to her co-stars. 'I'll be very brief because everyone wants to leave, I imagine,' Dupieux said, taking the microphone and cutting off applause. 'It's kind of you to stay, it's really nice, but it's late.'

"I want to live with artists and work with artists. Thank you, Cannes, thank you very much," Dupieux said before ending his remarks with a literal mic drop.

Film's Unique Appeal

'Full Phil' features Stewart and Harrelson as a father-daughter duo attempting to reconnect during a trip to Paris, with their stay disrupted by French cuisine, a 1950s horror movie, and a nosy hotel employee. The film also stars Emma Mackey, Charlotte Le Bon, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim.

Director's Vision

Dupieux's last appearance at Cannes was with his 2024 comedy 'The Second Act.' Stewart, who premiered her directorial debut 'The Chronology of Water' at Cannes last year, expressed her admiration for Dupieux's DIY approach in an interview with Variety, saying, "I love his movies. They just don’t look or feel like anyone else’s." She praised his hands-on style, stating, "You are with him, connected completely. He knows how he’s going to edit it by the end of the day. If he’s missing a shot, he gets it. He’s beyond an auteur, he’s like a mastermind."
