Instagram has announced the rollout of a new feature allowing users to rearrange posts in their profile grid, available via Android and iPhone apps as of June 8th.
Feature Details
Previously, Instagram posts were locked in chronological order, with the exception of three pinned posts at the top. The new feature allows users to long-press and drag posts to their preferred order, regardless of the post's age. Pinned posts will continue to remain at the top of the grid.
Development and Announcement
Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, initially announced this feature in January of last year. This announcement came with an apology for changing the layout from square thumbnails to a taller, vertical orientation, which disrupted users' carefully curated profile pages. Mosseri's latest update on the feature simply stated, "Finally," signaling its long-anticipated release.
User Reactions and Future Expectations
Despite the excitement surrounding this update, user comments suggest there are still additional features they hope to see from Instagram. Notably, users have expressed a desire for a native iPad user interface, a feature they've been anticipating even longer than the grid reorganization.
With this rollout, Instagram continues to adapt its platform to meet user demands, aiming to enhance the user experience by providing more customization options for personal profile presentation.
