Quiver Distribution has acquired North American rights to 'Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day', featuring Haley Bennett, Lily Allen, Jack Whitehall, Jennifer Saunders, Timothy Spall, and Elyas M’Barek. U.S. domestic rights are co-represented by WestEnd and WME Independent, while WestEnd manages international sales.

Fall Theatrical Release Planned

Quiver aims for a theatrical release in the fall. 'Night & Day', based on Virginia Woolf’s early novel, is set in early 20th century London and addresses the declining Edwardian patriarchal attitudes through a comedic lens.

Direction and Screenplay

The film is directed by Tina Gharavi, known for her BAFTA-nominated work on 'I Am Nasrine', with a screenplay by Justine Waddell. The narrative follows aspiring astronomer Katharine Hilbery, played by Bennett, whose ambitions clash with her father’s (Spall) traditional expectations. She becomes involved in the Suffragette movement, led by Mary, portrayed by Allen.

Key Performances and Production Insights

Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman, co-presidents of Quiver Distribution, praised the film for its smart, funny, and emotional narrative, highlighting Bennett's exceptional performance. Waddell emphasized the film's humor and wit, contrasting with the serious tone often associated with Woolf’s works.

Bennett describes her character as a woman “with huge ambition in a small space,” standing against societal norms to pursue education and love on her terms. Cinematography is led by Sebastian Edschmid, with editing by Hansjörg Weißbrich and Ben Wilson, production design by David Hindle, and costumes by Esther Walz.

Production and Co-Production Details

Produced by Waddell, Christopher Figg, Meg Thomson, and others, the film is a U.K.-German co-production involving Asterisk Films, Piccadilly Pictures, and GLISK, among others. It received support from various film boards and development financing from the BFI.

Quiver Distribution's recent releases include 'London Calling' by Allan Ungar and 'Cleaner' by Martin Campbell. They also announced acquisitions of 'A Prayer for the Dying' and 'The Birthday Party'. The 'Night & Day' deal was negotiated by Larry Greenberg and TJ Smith for Quiver, and WME Independent and WestEnd Films for the filmmakers.
