Mike D of the Beastie Boys has released his debut solo single, "Switch Up," on May 8, 2026, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Family Collaboration
The track "Switch Up" was born from sessions at Mike D's home studio, created alongside his sons, Skyler and Davis Diamond. The duo, known as Very Nice Person, took on production duties, co-producing the track with Carter Lang. This familial collaboration adds a unique personal touch to the project.
Live Debut
Mike D joined Very Nice Person on stage for a surprise performance on April 11, where they performed Beastie Boys classics such as "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" and "So What'cha Want." The live debut was met with enthusiasm, showcasing the synergy between Mike D and his sons.
Legacy of the Beastie Boys
Since the passing of bandmate Adam "MCA" Yauch in 2012, Mike D has not performed with the Beastie Boys. However, the group's legacy continues with various projects, including vinyl reissues, a greatest hits album, a Spike Jonze-directed documentary, and the official dedication of Beastie Boys Square in New York City.
Upcoming Performances
To celebrate the release of "Switch Up," Mike D has scheduled several performances. He will perform at the Sid the Cat Auditorium in South Pasadena, California, on May 10, followed by two shows at the Xanadu Roller Arts in New York on May 22 and 23. These performances are set to bring the new solo material to life on stage.
With "Switch Up," Mike D not only ventures into solo artistry but also bridges his storied past with the next generation, offering fans a glimpse of both nostalgia and innovation.
