Paul McCartney has teamed up with fellow Beatles legend Ringo Starr for their first-ever duet, 'Home to Us'. This track is part of McCartney's upcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, set to release on May 29 via MPL/Capital. The song also includes vocals from Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri.
First Collaboration Since 2023
'Home to Us' marks the first collaboration between McCartney and Starr since their work on the Beatles' track 'Now and Then' in 2023. This Beatles song, based on a John Lennon vocal track from 1994, was completed with the help of AI technology introduced by director Peter Jackson. Jackson also directed a music video for the track.
Origins of 'Home to Us'
The song originated when McCartney and producer Andrew Watt requested Starr to record a drum track. Initially, Starr was to sing only a few lines, but McCartney invited him to perform a full duet. McCartney explained, 'In writing the song I'm talking about where we came from. In common with a lot of people, you come from nothing and you build yourself up.' He added that Starr, hailing from Liverpool's Dingle area, faced his share of challenges but considered it home.
Autobiographical Themes
The forthcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane is described as an autobiographical journey through McCartney's childhood in post-war Liverpool. The lead single, 'Days We Left Behind', was released in March, setting the stage for the album's introspective theme.
Guest Artists Add to the Mix
'Home to Us' is unique within the album for featuring a guest drummer, with Starr delivering a memorable performance alongside backing vocals from Hynde and Spiteri. The collaboration brings together iconic voices, highlighting the enduring legacy of the Beatles and their individual members.
