Google announced new Gemini Intelligence-branded AI features at its “Android Show: I/O Edition” event on May 12, 2026, enhancing Android devices with advanced capabilities like task automation and widget customization.
Gemini's Expanded Capabilities
Following its initial introduction at the Samsung Galaxy S26 launch, Gemini now supports more complex tasks. Users can now book a front-row bike for a spin class, access class syllabuses from Gmail, and find related books.
Building on this, Google’s AI assistant can perform a series of actions, such as copying a grocery list from notes and adding those items to a shopping app cart. Users activate this by pressing the power button and describing the task, using on-screen content for context. Gemini will await final confirmation before completing purchases.
Web Browsing and Form Filling
Introduced experimentally in January, Gemini's web browsing feature is now coming to Android, enabling users to automatically book appointments. By late June, Android devices will also incorporate Gemini in Chrome for content summarization and interactive queries.
Gemini can also fill out forms using details learned through Personal Intelligence, with user consent. This feature is opt-in and can be disabled in settings.
Integration with Gboard
Gemini's integration with Android's Gboard keyboard includes the Rambler feature, which facilitates dictation. This tool allows users to transcribe speech in their own tone and format text by removing filler words, enhancing the usability of dictation apps.
Vibe-Coded Widgets
Vibe coding is gaining momentum, and Google is enabling Android users to create widgets through natural language descriptions. For instance, a user might request a widget to suggest high-protein meal prep recipes weekly.
While the concept isn't exclusive to Gemini, as evidenced by a similar tool from the startup Nothing last year, Google's approach aims to simplify widget creation.
Google plans to roll out these AI-powered features first to the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices this summer, with broader availability on other Android devices by year-end. These features align with Google's Material 3 design language, enhancing the visual and functional experience of Android users.
