Seth Rogen, creator of The Studio, voiced strong opposition to using AI for scriptwriting during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival, suggesting those who rely on AI should reconsider their career choice.
Rogen’s Take on AI
Speaking to Brut, Rogen made his stance clear: “If your instinct is to use AI, you shouldn’t be a writer.” He expressed confusion over AI’s purpose in scriptwriting, stating, “Every time I see a video on Instagram that’s like, ‘Hollywood is cooked,’ what follows is, like, the most stupid dog shit I’ve ever seen in my life.”
The Writing Process
Rogen emphasized enjoying the scriptwriting process, dismissing shortcuts: “The idea of a tool that makes me write less is not appealing to me, because I like writing.” He advised those unwilling to engage fully in writing to pursue other occupations.
AI’s Impact on Entertainment
The entertainment industry faces changes with AI’s rise. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently updated its rules, including restrictions on AI in acting performances eligible for Oscars.
Rogen, a four-time Emmy winner, attended Cannes for Leah Nelson’s animated feature Tangles, featuring a star-studded voice cast including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston. Rogen also serves as a producer on the film.
