Brazilian actor Selton Mello is gearing up for his first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival with Dominga Sotomayor's 'La Perra,' marking his debut in a Spanish-language film.
Hollywood and International Projects
Mello recently starred in his first major Hollywood production, 'Anaconda,' alongside Jack Black and Paul Rudd, directed by Tom Gormican. He has also ventured into French cinema with João Paulo Miranda Maria’s 'I Don’t Even Know Who I Was.' Mello embraces these new experiences, saying, “I am allowing things to happen and keeping the door wide open.”
Career Highlights and New Ventures
Known for his roles in Brazilian cinema, Mello's career took a global turn following his work in Walter Salles’s Oscar-winning 'I’m Still Here.' This success opened international doors, leading him to projects like Michael Almereyda's 'Zero K,' an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel, currently filming in São Paulo. The film features Peter Sarsgaard, Caleb Landry Jones, Britt Lower, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
Expanding Horizons and Directorial Ambitions
Mello is excited to be working with Dominga Sotomayor on 'La Perra,' premiering at Directors’ Fortnight, and he expresses a desire to continue collaborating within Latin America. He also plans to expand his directorial work, with projects like an adaptation of Machado de Assis’s 'The Alienist,' which he describes as a “longtime dream.”
Future Projects and Collaborations
Beyond directing, Mello is involved in international projects with MyMama Entertainment and is in talks with Rodrigo Teixeira at RT Features for future collaborations. He remains represented by Conway van Gelder Grant and TFC Management.
