New York Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart confronted ESPN's Stephen A. Smith during a live podcast recording at Madison Square Garden, challenging past criticisms as they celebrated their NBA championship victory.

Championship Celebration with a Twist

A day after two million fans celebrated the Knicks' first NBA title in 53 years with a ticker-tape parade, Brunson and Hart hosted a live edition of their podcast, "The Roommates Show," alongside co-host Matt Hillman. The event at the Infosys Theater was packed, with proceeds benefiting the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

The podcast featured special guests, including Knicks teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Miles "Deuce" McBride, Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony, and the co-hosts' wives. The crowd erupted in cheers, especially when the hosts brought the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy onstage.

Stephen A. Smith Receives a Cold Reception

In contrast to the warm reception for others, Stephen A. Smith was met with boos during his appearance as a "secret guest." Hart joked about the crowd's reaction, while Smith attempted to downplay it by claiming, "Boos are cheers." The audience's reaction was linked to Smith's infamous 2016 comment dismissing Villanova's NBA prospects, despite the success of players like Brunson and Hart.

Smith also faced criticism for his 2022 comments questioning the Knicks' decision to sign Brunson, calling it a poor move compared to acquiring stars like Kevin Durant or Kawhi Leonard.

Smith Admits His Mistake

During the podcast, Brunson and Hart directly addressed Smith's past remarks. Hart asked Smith to admit he was wrong, and after some hesitation, Smith conceded, "I was beyond wrong. I’m apologizing to this brother on national television; I’m apologizing to the entire Knicks organization."

Smith, 58, claimed his loyalty to the Knicks, recalling the team's controversial decisions during the 2000s and 2010s under owner James Dolan. Despite his apology, Smith maintained humor, stating he would repeat his mistake if it ensured another championship.

A Night to Remember

The event offered a mix of celebration and confrontation, highlighting the Knicks' remarkable achievement and the ongoing dialogue between players and media personalities. The live podcast not only marked a significant moment for the team but also showcased the dynamic relationship between sports figures and commentators.
