Austin Butler Embraces Cooking and Fragrance

Austin Butler is expanding his horizons beyond acting, delving into the world of fragrance and cooking. The actor, known for roles in Eddington and Dune: Part Two, stars in YSL Beauty's latest campaign for the MYSLF Eau de Toilette Intense fragrance, directed by Romain Gavras. The campaign, set to Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself,” launches on May 15.

Behind the Scenes of the YSL Campaign

Butler collaborated with Gavras, known for his stylized films, to create a memorable ad that defies traditional campaign norms. The shoot took place in Mexico City, featuring vibrant settings like a brutalist architecture site. “I wanted to work with Romain...he flipped the dramatic idea of a campaign on its head,” Butler explained.

Fragrance Preferences and Memories

Butler appreciates the versatility of the MYSLF fragrance, noting its seasonal adaptability. His fragrance application method is inspired by his father: “Since I was a kid, I used to watch my daddy spray it on his neck and on his wrists.” Childhood scents, like oranges from his backyard and wet grass from Slip ’N Slide days, evoke strong memories for Butler.

Exploring New Passions

Beyond the fragrance world, Butler is also diving into cooking, thanks to a gift from Enemies co-star Jeremy Allen White. White gifted him Frankie’s Cookbook, sparking Butler’s interest in making pasta. “I want to learn how to make pasta,” he shared, recalling a cooking class in Tuscany that fostered his culinary passion.

Upcoming Projects and Personal Life

Butler is gearing up for his role in Miami Vice, immersing himself in the 1980s Miami lifestyle through books like Hotel Scarface. Off-screen, he looks forward to spending time in nature and cooking for friends. “I’m excited to have dinners with friends and cook,” he said. Recently, he embarked on a sailing trip in the Exumas, learning to sail from an 83-year-old friend, highlighting his love for new experiences and learning from others.
