Adam Driver Addresses Lena Dunham's Claims at Cannes

Adam Driver, known for roles in films such as BlacKkKlansman and Star Wars, faced questions about Lena Dunham's memoir during a Cannes press conference for Paper Tiger on Sunday.

Lena Dunham's Revelations

Lena Dunham's memoir, Famesick, has brought renewed attention to her HBO series Girls, where she first collaborated with Driver. Dunham alleges that Driver was sometimes "verbally aggressive" and describes an incident where he "hurled a chair at the wall next to me."

In her memoir, Dunham recounts a tense moment during a fight scene rehearsal, where Driver screamed, "FUCKING SAY SOMETHING," and threw a chair. She reflects on their relationship, noting that despite his temper, Driver could also be "protective" and "loving."

Driver's Response

At the Cannes press event for Paper Tiger, Driver addressed the memoir claims succinctly, saying, "I have no comment on any of that. I'm saving it all for my book," which elicited laughter from the audience.

Paper Tiger's Premiere

Paper Tiger, directed by James Gray and featuring Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, premiered on Saturday to a seven-minute standing ovation. The film, set in 1986, follows two brothers entangled with Russian mobsters due to a failed scheme involving the Gowanus Canal. Driver stars as Gary Pearl, a former cop who attempts to rescue his brother, played by Teller.

Scarlett Johansson's Absence

Although Johansson was not present at the premiere, she sent a statement expressing her gratitude for working with Gray and the cast. Gray read her remarks aloud, emphasizing the film's themes of human connection and the evolution of values.

Johansson's statement highlighted the power of cinema to foster empathy: "Cinema has this rare and remarkable power to connect us to one another through a shared experience... That collective empathy is something we could certainly use more of right now."
