The lawsuit, as reported by Deadline, accuses Amazon of attempting to recruit several Warner Bros. employees under contract, notably Pia Barlow, a former HBO Max marketing executive who transitioned to Amazon MGM Studios.
Barlow's contract with Warner Bros. was due to expire on October 31, 2027. Warner Bros. claims Amazon acted in violation of California law by encouraging these employees to breach their term employment agreements.
Warner Bros.' Statement
Warner Bros. stated, “In blatant disregard of established California law, Amazon has gone rogue by attempting to induce Plaintiffs’ employees with term employment agreements to breach those agreements with impunity, backed up with the ready assurance that Amazon will defend and indemnify them should they be held to account for their blatantly unlawful acts.”
The lawsuit further accuses Amazon of trying to persuade another Warner Bros. Discovery employee, believed to be HBO programming executive Francesca Orsi, to breach their contract, which was set to expire in December 2027. However, Orsi decided to remain with Warner Bros.
