Veteran television director Ralph W. Hemecker, known for his work on 'Blue Bloods' and 'Once Upon a Time,' died at age 65 on July 10 at his home in Glendale.

Decades of Television Excellence

Hemecker directed 31 episodes of 'Blue Bloods' and 28 episodes of 'Once Upon a Time.' His influence extended across numerous series including 'The X-Files,' 'Millennium,' 'Ghost Whisperer,' 'Numb3rs,' 'The Vampire Diaries,' 'Nikita,' 'V,' 'Legends of Tomorrow,' 'Quantico,' 'Body of Proof,' 'The Flash,' and 'Pacific Blue.' He also directed the 2000 TNT TV movie 'Witchblade' and served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer for its TV series from 2001 to 2002.

Early Career and Influences

Born on June 12, 1961, Hemecker developed a passion for visual storytelling while studying English at Bucknell University. He furthered his filmmaking skills at New York University. His early directing work included 'America’s Most Wanted,' where he directed reenactments of real-life crimes, and episodes of 'Silk Stalkings' and 'Renegade.'

Impact and Legacy

Hemecker directed the pilot for 'Roar,' featuring a young Heath Ledger, as well as pilots for 'Lawless' and 'Dead at 21.' 'Once Upon a Time' actress Lana Parrilla remembered him for his kindness and dedication, stating on Instagram, "Ralph Hemecker was one of the kindest, most generous souls I’ve ever known." She highlighted his passion and leadership on set, noting his deep involvement in preparing each episode.

Family and Tributes

Hemecker leaves behind two stepdaughters, his father, sister, brother, two nephews, one niece, and one great-nephew. His family, inspired by his admiration for Navy SEALs, requests memorial donations to the SEAL Future Foundation. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
