Prentis, an AI research lab co-founded by Ritankar Das, Reid Hoffman, and Mark Pincus, is negotiating to secure $100 million in funding, aiming for a $1 billion valuation, according to insiders.
Focus on Office Automation
Launched in April, Prentis focuses on developing AI that automates routine office tasks. Its models learn workflows across various systems, aiming to create AI agents to manage tasks like insurance claims and customs duty refunds without human intervention.
Contracts worth up to $50 million have already been signed with customers, including a healthcare management service and manufacturers. Prentis projects a $75 million annualized run rate by Q3, based on a 20% fee of savings realized, though this remains performance-dependent.
Competitive Edge and Market Landscape
Prentis claims its Hive-32B model surpasses competitors like OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 in benchmarks such as WindowsAgentArena and ScreenSpot-v2. The company highlights its model's cost-effectiveness, offering 10 times lower costs per task than frontier APIs, enhancing its appeal for everyday use.
However, the AI automation market is competitive. Rivals like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Thinking Machines Lab are pursuing similar goals. Anthropic recently acquired Vercept, consolidating talent in this space.
Leadership and Vision
CEO Ritankar Das, a UC Berkeley prodigy and founder of Titan, has a history of successful ventures like Tala Health and Forta Health. Titan's Dascena was acquired by CirrusDx in 2022, showcasing Das's knack for building impactful AI-driven companies.
Co-founders Hoffman and Pincus are also notable figures. Hoffman is shifting focus from Microsoft to Manas AI, while Pincus leads Reinvent Capital and recently authored a memoir.
Team and Talent
Prentis has recruited over 25 employees, including former researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Meta, Tencent, and Alibaba. This diverse talent pool is critical as the company aims to lead in AI-driven office solutions.
