Third Culture Content has introduced Night Market Studios, a new genre label based in Singapore, with the writing duo Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes from 'The Conjuring' joining as executive producers. The label is launching a slate of four films at the Cannes Film Market.
Focus on Asian Mythologies
Owned by Third Culture Content, co-founded by Janice Chua and Sean Dulake, Night Market Studios aims to produce elevated horror, thriller, and action-comedy films. These films will draw on Asian settings and mythologies, targeting franchise scalability and remake potential.
Debut Slate of Films
The inaugural slate includes 'The Damned,' directed by Oscar-nominated Bhutanese filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji, with a script by Michael Tay and Karl Gan. The horror film tells the story of an expectant father who becomes involved in a forbidden Taoist ritual, leading to supernatural consequences.
Indonesian director Angga Dwimas Sasongko will direct 'Coverband Heist,' an action-comedy set in Jakarta. The film follows five musicians attempting a heist during a hotel event, in collaboration with Sasongko's Visinema Pictures.
Marie Jamora is set to direct 'Imprint,' a supernatural thriller written by Charlene Sawit-Esguerra. The film features Liza Soberano as executive producer and follows a Filipino-American woman who discovers a psychic ability while tracking a serial killer.
Completing the slate is 'The Curse of Bali,' a romantic horror-comedy centered around an engagement celebration that invokes a Balinese superstition, leading to bizarre events.

Chua and Dulake emphasized their belief in the cinematic potential of Asian genre stories, stating, 'Night Market is our way of bringing together acclaimed genre storytellers Chad and Carey Hayes, bold regional voices and commercially ambitious storytelling under one banner.'

Chua, a former VP at Imagine Entertainment and a producer of 'Crazy Rich Asians,' has a background in international co-productions. Dulake produced and starred in 'Dramaworld,' which won best foreign drama at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
