Cristo Fernández, celebrated for his portrayal of Dani Rojas in Apple TV+'s 'Ted Lasso', has signed a professional soccer contract with El Paso Locomotive FC, a USL Championship club. The announcement was made on Tuesday via the club's official X account. While the terms of the deal remain confidential, it is pending approval from the league and federation.

From Fiction to Reality

Fernández, who gained fame with his character's signature line “Fútbol is life!”, now finds life imitating art. “Fútbol has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart,” the actor stated on the club’s website. His journey back to soccer comes after a two-month trial with the club.

Welcome to El Paso

El Paso Locomotive FC welcomed Fernández with open arms. “The rumors were true. Welcome to El Paso, Cristo Fernández,” the club announced, highlighting their excitement about his addition to the team. Head coach Junior Gonzalez commented, “Cristo is a great addition to our roster, adding another attacking threat to our forward line. His passion for the game and leadership qualities for our locker room allow us to continue growing the positive culture we strive for as a club.”

A Return to Roots

At 35, Fernández is returning to a dream detoured by a knee injury at age 15, which halted his early ambitions in professional soccer. Originally a youth soccer player in his native Mexico, his career trajectory was redirected towards acting, ultimately leading to his role in 'Ted Lasso'.

The transition from the fictional pitch of AFC Richmond to the real-life field of El Paso Locomotive feels like a full-circle moment for Fernández, aligning his professional and personal passions in an unexpected yet fitting convergence.
