Swap Commerce Unveils First Agentic Storefront

Swap Commerce, a leader in e-commerce logistics, has unveiled the world's first agentic storefront at the Vogue Business Global Summit in Chantilly. The announcement was made by Swap co-founder and CEO Sam Atkinson, marking a significant step forward in e-commerce technology.

What is an Agentic Storefront?

According to Juan Pellerano, Chief Marketing Officer of Swap, the agentic storefront is designed to revolutionize how brands engage with customers online. "We’re bringing out the first agentic storefront," Pellerano said. "We’ve been working on it for a year and are excited to launch it alongside over 20 brand partners, including Simkhai, Retrofit, Studio Nicholson, and Manors Golf." Initially conceived from a B2C perspective, Swap's new tool aims to empower brands to control the customer journey from start to finish.

AI-Powered Shopping Experience

The agentic storefront operates with two primary modes: discovery and conversation. In discovery mode, customers explore products as if scrolling through social media. In conversation mode, they interact with a virtual agent, seeking advice for specific needs like outfits for events or trips. Pellerano noted, "Through that guided discovery, brands are converting at roughly twice the rate of a standard .com." Additionally, virtual try-ons have reduced return rates by approximately 20%.

Swap has also partnered with Air Mail to debut a residency collaboration in New York and London, featuring items like "Talk to my Agent" hats, further showcasing the potential of agentic storefronts.

Learning from Past Projects

Pellerano reflected on earlier projects, such as Window Shop, which informed the development of the agentic storefront. "As we were working on Window Shop, we realized AI was shaping shopping experiences akin to today's large language models like ChatGPT," he explained. Swap's goal is to provide brands with tools to retain customer interactions and data, countering the walled-garden approach of current AI models.

Future of AI in Fashion

Founded over three years ago, Swap initially focused on backend solutions like returns and inventory management. Now, with 800 global brands in their portfolio, they are shifting focus to the front end, aiming to integrate these two aspects of e-commerce seamlessly. Pellerano is optimistic about AI's role in fashion, predicting that the agentic experience will become the preferred interaction model as AI technology continues to evolve.
