AMD is integrating its 3D V-Cache technology into commercial workstation processors for the first time with a new lineup of Ryzen PRO 9000 series chips. Previously focused on gamers, these chips have shown increasing proficiency in creative applications.
Enhanced Workstation Performance
The Ryzen PRO 9000 series, built on AMD's Zen 5 architecture, will cater to complex tasks such as simulation, rendering, and real-time visualization. The chips will feature 6 to 16 cores and 12 to 32 threads, supporting up to 256GB of EEC DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0.
Selective 3D V-Cache Inclusion
AMD has announced that only select models in the new series will include the 3D V-Cache technology. According to AMD, this inclusion specifically targets data-intensive workloads, enhancing their processing capabilities significantly.
Launch Timeline and Availability
The rollout of these chips is scheduled for the second half of 2026, with the Lenovo ThinkStation P4 slated for a Q3 2026 launch. This move represents a significant step for AMD in expanding its reach beyond gaming into the commercial workstation market.
"The best CPU for both gaming and creator tasks," said Tom Warren in his review of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, highlighting its superior handling of creator workloads compared to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
As the tech industry continues to evolve, AMD's strategic expansion of its processor line could offer substantial benefits to industries relying on heavy computational power.
