Russell Crowe is set to attend the Taormina Film Festival in Italy for the world premiere of 'Bear Country', an action thriller that reunites him with director Derrick Borte, known for 'Unhinged'. The festival, hosted in the picturesque Sicilian town familiar to U.S. audiences as the backdrop for 'The White Lotus' Season 2, will welcome Crowe as part of the event's special lineup.
Star-Studded Jury Panel
Festival director Tiziana Rocca announced that the jury panel would include Holly Hunter, renowned costume designer Miyako Bellizzi, casting director Francine Maisler, emerging director Akinola Davies Jr. of 'My Father's Shadow', Amazon MGM Studios' global marketing head Sue Kroll, and Italian actor/director Pietro Castellitto. Previously, it was revealed that Jane Campion would preside over the jury, and Helen Mirren is set to receive a lifetime achievement award.
'Bear Country' Special Event
'Bear Country' will be showcased as a special event at the festival's ancient Greek theatre. Russell Crowe stars as Manco Kapak, a seasoned club owner whose retirement plans are disrupted by a robbery. The film's cast also includes Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, Nina Dobrev, and Aaron Paul, with most of the main cast expected to attend. The film is produced by Jeffrey Greenstein and Mark Fasano, with Italian distribution by Gianluca Curti's Minerva Pictures.
Celebrating Cinema
Tiziana Rocca highlighted the festival's mission, stating, "This edition celebrates great cinema through outstanding personalities, authoritative artistic visions, and an increasingly open dialogue between cultures and generations." The festival's structure includes four sections: The International Feature Film Competition, Out of Competition, Special Events at the Ancient Theatre, and a new Short Film Competition featuring films shot in Sicily.
Festival Dates and Lineup
The 72nd edition of the Taormina Film Festival will run from June 10-14. The full lineup is expected to be announced in early June.
