The Nomadic Film Space launched at the Cannes Film Festival's Marché du Film, aiming to connect African creative producers with institutional capital.
Bridging Gaps in the Film Industry
Designed to address a critical gap in the international film industry, the Nomadic Film Space seeks to move beyond traditional market encounters. Its creators envision a structured environment where African cinema's entrepreneurial producers can engage with investors who understand the sector, from development through distribution and audience building.
Partnerships and Support
Curated by Yetu (Un)limited with partners Ctrl + Alt + Shift, Sanusi Development Studio, and Kiasi, the platform features curated events like 'The African & Diasporic Audience Development Think Tank.' Key sponsors include Afreximbank, Film Fund Luxembourg, SACD, Institut Français, SODEC, Téléfilm Canada, Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, and others.
Importance of Cultural Resonance
'African, Afro-diasporic, and Global South film industries are an archipelago filled with cultural resonance,' said Yanis Gaye, founder of Yetu (Un)limited. 'It is crucial to design infrastructures that allow investors to engage with these markets, understanding their operations and success within specific contexts.'
A Platform for African Cinema
Cannes Film Festival is known for discovering African cinema, with the 2026 edition featuring works from both established and new African auteurs. Highlights include a star-studded Nigerian film, a Rwandan director's debut in the Official Selection, a landmark co-production, and a Moroccan auteur's latest work.
