Meta Expands Ray-Ban Glasses with Virtual Writing

Meta's Ray-Ban Display smart glasses are getting a major upgrade with the introduction of virtual writing capabilities using hand gestures, now available to all users. This feature integrates with WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and both Android and iOS native messaging, according to a recent Meta blog post.

Virtual Writing Unveiled

The virtual writing feature leverages a neural wristband included with the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses. Initially showcased during the product's announcement, it was not available at launch. In January, Meta released an early access version for WhatsApp and Messenger, which has now expanded to a broader audience.

Additional Enhancements

Meta is also rolling out several other improvements. A new feature called “display recording” allows users to capture videos combining lens display visuals, real-world views, and ambient audio. Additionally, walking directions are now accessible across the entire United States and major international cities such as London, Paris, and Rome. Live captions are also supported on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram voice messages.

Developer Opportunities

Further, Meta has opened a developer preview to create apps for the Meta Ray-Ban Display, including the deployment of web apps directly to the glasses. This move indicates Meta's commitment to expanding the functionality and versatility of its smart glasses.

These updates mark a significant step in the evolution of smart glasses, promising enhanced user interaction and communication capabilities.
