Marshall and Jimi Hendrix's iconic collaboration is reborn with the launch of a limited-edition speaker collection, marking 60 years since Hendrix first used a Marshall amplifier.
Celebrating a Legacy
The Marshall x Hendrix 60th Anniversary Collection was unveiled today, featuring three limited-edition pieces: the Acton III Bluetooth speaker, the 1959 JMH Half Stack, and a Fuzz Face distortion pedal. Each item draws inspiration from Hendrix's distinctive style, incorporating elements like crushed velvet, silver accents, and a psychedelic aesthetic from the 1960s.
Design Details
Emma Rydahl, senior industrial designer at Marshall Group, led the design process. She explained, "From his fashion to his lyrics and music, there are so many stories we could tell when it comes to Hendrix. We started with materials and patterns, testing prints with a psychedelic track in mind."
The Acton III speaker embodies this vision with its crushed velvet exterior, silver control panel, and purple accents. A silver all-seeing eye motif nods to Hendrix's mystical influences, and a unique sound plays upon startup: an instrumental version of "Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)."
The Showstopper: 1959 JMH Half Stack
The centerpiece is the 1959 JMH Half Stack, a hand-built amplifier replicating Hendrix's signature setup. Constructed at Marshall's Bletchley factory, the amplifier features a cosmic black-and-purple design with silver details reminiscent of Hendrix's stage jewelry. A promotional film showcases guitarist Zach Person testing the stack in Hendrix's birthplace, Seattle.
Accompanying the stack is the Fuzz Face distortion pedal, crafted by Dunlop with a similar swirl design to recreate Hendrix's distinctive tones.
A Historic Partnership
Terry Marshall, co-founder of Marshall, reflected on the collaboration, "He took everything to a new level and carried everybody with him. When he played, it was an emotional time for everybody because everyone was thinking, if he can do it, I could maybe do it. And he’s using Marshall, therefore we want Marshall. It was a really special time for us all and there’s no doubt that we grew with him and his fame. The rest is history, as they say."
This collection is a tribute to the enduring impact of Hendrix and Marshall on the music world, available now for enthusiasts and collectors.
