Lovable, known for its AI-powered app-building platform, has invested in the Danish hardware startup Atech, aiming to bring 'vibe coding' to hardware development. The investment was part of an $800,000 pre-seed round, which also included contributions from a16z’s scout fund, Sequoia Scout Fund, and Nordic Makers.
Expanding Hardware Accessibility
Atech's approach to hardware building is designed to be straightforward. Users purchase a starter kit from Atech's website, then interact with an AI chatbot to describe their hardware concept. The AI tool generates the necessary code, facilitating the creation of a working prototype. Gustav Hugod, Atech’s head of customer experience, explained the broad range of the company's user base, stating, “from four-year-olds building cars to a hydrogen synthesis plant that needs precise voltage sensing.”
Collapsing the Accessibility Gap
Traditionally, constructing hardware prototypes demands considerable expertise or hiring skilled engineers, which can be costly. Hugod emphasized that as the accessibility gap in software has narrowed, the same trend is expected in hardware. “Hardware, in a democratized world, has to be available to everyone,” he asserted. The influx of capital will be directed towards research and development, marketing, and expanding the team.
