Kate Beckinsale Joins Shark Thriller 'White'

Kate Beckinsale has signed on for the shark survival film White, directed by Jake West and co-starring Katherine McNamara, with a script by Dan Schaffer.

Plot and Characters

The film follows Willa Harba, a struggling actress whose private jet crashes into the Pacific Ocean. As the sole survivor, she finds herself stranded on a plane's wing surrounded by ocean. Her only connection to the outside world is a satellite phone, but her calls for help to her studio boss, Barbara (played by Beckinsale), are ignored. Instead, marine biologist Sam Swatek (McNamara) picks up her signal and informs her that she's in the White Shark Café, a notorious area for great white sharks.

Production Details

Casting for the lead role of Willa is ongoing, with principal photography scheduled to start this summer in Bulgaria, England, and the U.S. Producers of the film include Yariv Lerner, Dominic Burns, Crawford Anderson-Dillon, and Sky Morfopoulos, with Beckinsale serving as executive producer alongside Highland Film Group's Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier, Patrick Wintersgill, Kevin Glynn, Pauric Duffy, and Hannah Leader.

Highland Film Group Involvement

Highland Film Group is handling worldwide sales and co-financing White, launching the project at Cannes. Arianne Fraser, Highland's CEO, describes the film as an “incredibly elevated and intense adventure filled with tension, emotion, and ferocious sharks.” COO Delphine Perrier expressed excitement about working with producer Yariv Lerner and highlighted the cast led by Beckinsale and McNamara.

Highland Film Group's Slate

Highland Film Group's current lineup includes Lisette Feliciano's Iron Jane with Eiza Gonzalez, Neil Burger's Barracuda with Anthony Mackie, Justin Chadwick's The Mark, Martin Campbell's Just Play Dead, The Black Demon: Atlantis, Pierre Morel's The Good Samaritan, Stratagem, and Brad Anderson's Moral Capacity.

Beckinsale is represented by Kleinberg Lange.
