Why 'Heated Rivalry' Misses 2026 Emmy List

The hit show Heated Rivalry will not be seen on the list of Emmy nominations this year due to its production being outside the U.S., despite its successful run and eligibility by timeframe.

Ineligibility Due to Production Rules

According to Emmy rules, shows financed by non-U.S. production companies cannot compete for the Primetime Emmy Awards. Heated Rivalry is produced by Canada’s Bell Media and airs on Crave, making it ineligible for the U.S. awards but open for International Emmy consideration.

Canadian Success Story

The series has already made waves in Canada, winning 16 awards at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards. Highlights include Best Drama Series, Best Lead Performer for Hudson Williams, and awards for Best Direction and Writing by Jacob Tierney.

Connor Storrie's Award Dilemma

Connor Storrie, another lead actor in Heated Rivalry, was ineligible for the Canadian Screen Awards due to his American nationality. His performance is also not eligible for the Emmys. However, he may still gain recognition for his guest appearance on Saturday Night Live from February 28, where he hosted the episode featuring Mumford & Sons and included a sketch with co-star Williams.

Ongoing Popularity and Future Plans

In the U.S. Heated Rivalry is available on HBO Max, bringing Reid's fictional hockey universe to life. The storyline follows Canadian Shane Hollander (Williams) and Russian Ilya Rozanov (Storrie) through a complex relationship. The show has gained a strong following, ensuring its stars' rise to fame.

Crave has renewed the series for a second season, with HBO Max continuing to air it. The new season, scheduled for a spring 2027 release, will adapt Reid’s novels The Long Game and Role Model. Author Reid has also announced a new book, Unrivaled, releasing in June 2027, expanding the story of Shane and Ilya.
