Greg Brockman Leads OpenAI Product Strategy

Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, is now leading the company's product strategy while Fidji Simo, CEO of AGI deployment, is on medical leave. This move, reported by Wired, formalizes Brockman's interim oversight of OpenAI's product development.

Unified Product Vision

Brockman plans to merge ChatGPT with OpenAI's programming assistant, Codex. "We’re consolidating our product efforts to execute with maximum focus toward the agentic future, to win across both consumer and enterprise," Brockman reportedly stated in a staff memo.

Collaboration Amid Transition

Despite her medical leave, Simo collaborated with Brockman on these strategic changes. OpenAI confirmed ongoing discussions about integrating ChatGPT, Codex, and its API into a single platform supported by a unified product team, as previously outlined in communications from Fidji Simo.

Focus on Core Competencies

In late 2025, CEO Sam Altman issued a "code red" to refocus on enhancing the ChatGPT experience. As a result, OpenAI has paused other projects, such as the video generator Sora and OpenAI for Science, to concentrate resources on its core offerings.

OpenAI's recent moves signify a strategic shift towards a streamlined, focused product lineup, positioning the company to better serve its consumer and enterprise clients.
