Amal Clooney made a striking appearance at the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration at Royal Albert Hall in London, wearing an archival gold sequined gown by Alexander McQueen.

McQueen's Archival Gold

The human rights lawyer opted for a cap-sleeve, V-neck dress from McQueen's fall 2007 collection, known as “In Memory of Elizabeth Howe.” This collection was inspired by the designer’s ancestral connection to the Salem witch trials. The gown's gold sequins contoured Clooney's frame, complemented by pointy-toe pumps, a bracelet, earrings, and a clutch.

A Dress with History

This particular dress has a storied past. In May 2007, actress Cameron Diaz wore it to the Tokyo premiere of Shrek the Third. Following McQueen’s untimely passing, the gown was auctioned at Bonham’s in 2010 and later at Sotheby’s “Fashion Icons” auction in December 2024, fetching $114,000. It is unclear if Clooney's dress is the same auctioned piece.

Amal's Formidable Collection

Amal Clooney’s fashion choices often draw attention, and her affinity for vintage and archival pieces is well-noted. Earlier this year, she wore a 1957 Pierre Balmain couture gown to the Golden Globes and a Jean-Louis Scherrer minidress from fall 1995 last summer. Despite recent appearances in fresh designs from Pucci and Balenciaga, her McQueen choice marked a return to her vintage roots.

Clooney's McQueen gown was a standout at the Royal Albert Hall, capturing the essence of timeless fashion with a modern twist.
