Google is introducing a new AI-driven “contextual suggestions” feature for Android users, designed to recommend actions based on their daily routines and locations, according to Android Authority. This feature aims to anticipate user needs, like suggesting a playlist when arriving at the gym.

Feature Expansion

Originally tested in the Play Services beta, Google has now extended contextual suggestions to the stable channel, although the official launch hasn't been confirmed. Reports from Android Authority and 9to5Google indicate the feature is active on Pixel 10 series devices running Android 16, with default settings enabled.

Privacy and Functionality

While visual details of the notifications are unclear, screenshots from settings show users can control data access, including disabling location use. The privacy section assures users that the feature operates in an encrypted space, keeping data from being shared with Google or external apps.

“In this space, AI learns from the data and makes predictions about what might be helpful to you,” Google explains. “For example, if you often cast sports games to your living room TV on Saturdays, your device can suggest casting at the right time.”

Comparisons and Compatibility

The contextual suggestions feature is similar to the Magic Cue function found in Google’s Pixel 10 series, which suggests relevant information like addresses and contacts for apps and conversations. While broader availability on non-Pixel devices hasn't been confirmed, a support page notes that Android 14 or higher is required for audio and video casting support.

Google has been approached for more details on the launch timeline and device compatibility. For users interested in checking the feature's availability, they can navigate to Settings > Google Services > All services > Other on their Android devices.
