The murder case against D4vd, real name David Burke, will proceed to trial after a Los Angeles judge's ruling on Monday. Burke is accused of murdering and sexually abusing 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, according to Rolling Stone.
Evidence Presented in Court
Prosecutors presented evidence that included graphic photos of Hernandez’s body and text messages exchanged between her and Burke. “It appears to me, for the purposes of preliminary hearing, the people have met their burden of proof on all charges,” Judge Charlaine Olmedo stated, per Rolling Stone. Burke's arraignment is scheduled for August 31.
Allegations and Text Messages
As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Burke, 21, allegedly stabbed Hernandez to death in April 2025 at his Hollywood Hills home. Texts between Burke and Hernandez allegedly reference an abortion she had in 2024. Prosecutors also showed a heated text exchange from days before Hernandez’s death, related to Burke's relationship with another woman. Hernandez texted, “I will tell my dad so many fucking lies about u dead ass i will end ur career and ur life I will damage anything.”
Discovery of Hernandez's Remains
Authorities found Hernandez’s dismembered remains in a Tesla registered to Burke last September, following reports of a foul odor. Burke was arrested in April, charged with first-degree murder, sexual abuse of a child, and body mutilation. Prosecutors allege Burke dismembered Hernandez using a chainsaw.
Defense and Prosecution Arguments
Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His defense attorney, Marilyn Bednarski, argued there was insufficient evidence tying Burke to Hernandez’s death and stated that the messages reflect “the opposite of homicidal animus,” according to Rolling Stone. L.A. deputy attorney Beth Silverman described Hernandez as a minor who was “groomed” and “gaslit,” as reported by the Times.
Prior to these charges, D4vd was a rising star in the bedroom pop scene and was on tour when Hernandez’s remains were discovered. He was formerly signed with Interscope Records but has since been dropped from their roster.
