Big Freedia is set to release a long-awaited three-song EP, created in collaboration with the late producer SOPHIE, on June 19, 2026. The project, recorded in 2016, lacks a formal title and tracklist, but will include fan-favorite "Blaze That Ass," a track that has circulated online through leaks and live DJ set recordings.
Big Freedia's Tribute
In a statement released to the press, Big Freedia shared the emotional significance of working with SOPHIE, expressing, “Recording with SOPHIE is something I hold even closer to my heart now, especially after her passing. She was an artist who showed the world that living boldly is your greatest power. With this EP, I want to show the world how loved she was and still is!”
Upcoming Releases
The EP's first single, "Blaze That Ass," will drop on May 22, 2026. This eagerly anticipated track has been a staple in SOPHIE’s DJ sets, drawing attention from fans for years. The release aims to celebrate SOPHIE’s enduring influence on the music industry and her unique approach to bold, innovative soundscapes.
Legacy of SOPHIE
Big Freedia’s collaboration with SOPHIE follows her latest full-length project, the 2025 gospel album Pressing Onward. The release also coincides with the 10th anniversary of SOPHIE's influential singles collection, Product, which received a deluxe edition in 2025. This edition included "Sunscreen," a popular collaboration with artist Liz.
SOPHIE, who passed away in 2021, is remembered for her transformative impact on pop and electronic music, inspiring a generation of artists with her boundary-pushing production techniques and fearless artistic expression.
The upcoming EP from Big Freedia marks an important moment for fans of both artists, offering a chance to experience the synergy between two trailblazers of the music world. As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build for this unique collaboration.
