Warner Bros. Pictures Animation announced plans to bring Looney Tunes back to theaters, with Pam Abdy highlighting their commitment at an event at the Burbank studio lot.
Return of Looney Tunes
Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chair and CEO Pam Abdy emphasized the studio's dedication to returning Looney Tunes to the big screen. Speaking at an event ahead of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Abdy previewed Daffy Season, a new short featuring Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd. The short aligns with the upcoming 2026 World Cup and will be showcased at Annecy.
Upcoming Releases
Abdy detailed several projects in production, including the adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat, featuring Bill Hader. She described it as the first feature since the animation studio's rebranding, emphasizing its filmmaker-driven approach. The studio is also working on a Speedy Gonzales animated feature directed by Jorge R. Gutiérrez.
Future Projects
Additional projects include Bad Fairies, a musical starring Cynthia Erivo, and Margie Claus with Melissa McCarthy. Abdy also mentioned adaptations of The Lunar Chronicles, Dynamic Duo, Tom and Jerry, Meerkat Manor, Hello Kitty, and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Diverse Slate
Bill Damaschke, WBPA president, praised Abdy and co-chief Mike De Luca for their support, highlighting a slate of seven features over three years. Damaschke stated, "Different looks, different styles, different tones — connected with what I hope will be heart, hope, humor and a scale that earns the big screen and remaining an artists-first community."
