Released on May 5, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Omni, priced at $399, follows its 2022 predecessor with enhancements like wireless hi-res audio support, improved mic quality, and universal console compatibility. The $599 Nova Elite offers superior materials and larger drivers.
Introducing the Stealth Pro 2
Turtle Beach unveiled its $349 Stealth Pro 2 shortly before the Omni's launch. With features clearly reflecting SteelSeries' influence, the Stealth Pro 2 includes swappable batteries, a charging base station, a companion app for audio settings, dual 2.4GHz and Bluetooth audio, and wireless hi-res audio support.
Features and Performance
- Pros: Strong sound and active noise cancellation, swappable batteries, includes hard case, switch between base station and USB transmitters.
- Cons: Heavier build, sound doesn't match Nova Pro Omni, base station features limited.
Both headsets deliver quality audio and noise cancellation. However, neither justifies purchase solely for hi-res audio capabilities. Testing on a Windows 11 PC revealed negligible difference from standard bit rate audio.
Design and Usability
Stealth Pro 2's design, reminiscent of AirPods Max, is ideal for setups with dispersed gaming devices. It allows toggling between transmitters while maintaining Bluetooth phone connections. The Nova Pro Omni resembles traditional wireless headphones with a retractable mic for non-gaming use.
Control and Customization
Both headsets offer Bluetooth-controlled app settings for equalizer and mic adjustments. The Stealth Pro 2 provides more on-device control, with buttons for equalizer presets and dials for adjusting USB and Bluetooth volumes, as well as game/chat mixes. The Omni centralizes controls in its GameHub station, accommodating multiple wired audio sources for optimal audio management.
In mic quality, SteelSeries takes the lead with its retractable boom mic, outperforming Turtle Beach's flip-to-mute alternative in clarity and warmth. However, neither headset matches standalone desktop microphones.
Price and Value
With a $50 lower price than the Omni, the Stealth Pro 2 offers a competitive alternative, although not the perfect fit for every user. For those on a tighter budget, the Nova Pro Wireless remains an excellent option, typically available for around $270 despite lacking wireless hi-res audio.
