Tudor Giurgiu's latest film, 3 Days in September, opens the 25th Transilvania Intl. Film Festival, featuring Andreea Vasile as Bianca, a bride facing chaos after her groom's affair is exposed.

New Direction for Giurgiu

The film marks a departure for Giurgiu, known for weighty subjects like the 1941 Soviet massacre in The Spruce Forest and the 1989 Romanian revolution in Freedom. His pivot to a comedic, single-take narrative was inspired by his son's challenge to explore themes beyond history.

Inspiration and Execution

Giurgiu was spurred by Radu Jude's experimental work and seized an opportunity to film in Eforie Sud. The project, featuring a fresh team, formed the Arome Film Creative Camp. The narrative was structured with a single-take centerpiece, inspired by Matías Bize’s Saturday.

Crafting Precision

Filming involved meticulous choreography, with Giurgiu and lead actress Vasile, his wife, ensuring the performance was seamless to maintain emotional depth beyond technical prowess.

Upcoming Projects

Following its Rotterdam premiere, Giurgiu plans a documentary on gymnast Nadia Comăneci and a period piece on Dumitru “Trixy” Checais, reflecting Romania's complex history.

The Transilvania Intl. Film Festival runs June 12 – 21.
