Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of the Freedom 250 concert series after criticizing artists who dropped out, suggesting a Make America Great Again rally instead.
Trump's Social Media Statements
On Saturday evening, Trump used Truth Social to express his dissatisfaction with artists withdrawing from the lineup of the Freedom 250 concert series. He proposed replacing the event with a MAGA rally, citing the participating artists as "overpriced singers" with "boring" music.
“Cancel it, just like I canceled my involvement with the failing and unsafe to be in Kennedy Center,” Trump wrote. He referenced a U.S. District Court ruling by Judge Christopher Cooper, which ordered the removal of his name from the Kennedy Center building.
Artists Leaving the Lineup
Several artists, including Bret Michaels and The Commodores, have exited the concert series. Bret Michaels explained that the event diverged from its original intention of celebrating the country, becoming more divisive than anticipated. Young MC, Morris Day, and Martina McBride also left the lineup.
Jodie Rocco of Milli Vanilli expressed surprise at seeing the group's name on the lineup, as reported by the Associated Press.
Trump's Proposed Alternative
In his earlier post, Trump hinted at replacing the absent artists with a speech by himself, describing himself as drawing "much larger audiences than Elvis" and being "the man who loves our Country more than anyone else." He suggested he could rally the nation as he did during his presidency.
Remaining Artists and Event Details
Despite the dropouts, Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida remain scheduled to perform. The Freedom 250 concert series was set to occur from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of a public-private partnership supported by the Trump administration.
