Team Dresch Announces First Album in 30 Years

Team Dresch, the influential queercore band from Portland, Oregon, has announced the release of Furthermore, their first album in 30 years, due out September 18 on Jealous Butcher Records.

Lead Single "One Song"

The album's lead single, "One Song", features choreography and a performance by Twylo Landey, daughter of Team Dresch's singer and bassist Jody Bleyle. The song includes lyrics inspired by Maurice Sendak’s controversial children's book In the Night Kitchen.

"There are lots of layers to this song," Team Dresch shared in a press statement. "It’s a love song to our young selves from our present selves. It’s a song of hope and power for all the young queers who are dragged into the struggle. It’s also a song for the elders who have built defenses from years of working and caretaking and being pounded by life."

Band History and Reunion

Team Dresch was formed in 1993 by Jody Bleyle, guitarist/vocalist Kaia Wilson, and guitarist/bassist Donna Dresch. Their debut album, Personal Best, was released in 1995 with Marcéo Martinez on drums, followed by Captain My Captain in 1996 with Melissa York on drums. Both Martinez and York returned for the new album Furthermore.

In 2019, the band reissued their first two albums along with a singles compilation titled Choices, Chances, Changes: Singles & Comptracks 1994-2000. In 2020, they released "Story of the Earth," a climate change protest song originally written in 2007. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Personal Best, Team Dresch performed several shows across the U.S. last year.
