See-Saw Films, a leading British-Australian independent production company, has signed a multi-year financing deal worth up to $50 million with Paris-based Entourage Ventures. The agreement aims to bolster See-Saw's production capabilities over the next three years.
Strategic Partnership Details
Under the terms of the deal, Entourage Ventures will invest equity into See-Saw's slate of feature films. This partnership comes at a time when See-Saw, recently acquired by Mediawan, seeks to diversify its funding sources and reduce dependence on traditional pre-sales models. The company is known for producing popular TV shows like “Slow Horses” and “Heartstopper,” as well as acclaimed films such as “The Power of the Dog,” “Lion,” and “The King’s Speech.”
Comments from Key Players
Simon Gillis, See-Saw’s joint managing director, highlighted the significance of the partnership. “At a moment of major change in the independent film market, this partnership gives us the freedom and firepower to be more ambitious and entrepreneurial in how we bring singular filmmaker-led stories to audiences around the world,” he said. He also noted the flexibility this deal provides in collaborating with external producers and filmmakers.
Julien Delajoux, co-founder and president of Entourage Ventures, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “See-Saw stands among the most distinctive voices in international filmmaker-driven cinema, with a track record few producers can match. We share their conviction that ambitious, singular storytelling for global audiences remains a powerful long-term proposition,” Delajoux commented.
Operational and Market Implications
The financial commitment from Entourage Ventures is expected to enhance See-Saw's creative development, packaging, production, and sales operations. The collaboration will involve See-Saw's in-house sales team, Cross City Films, and partnerships with filmmakers, cast, distribution, and platform partners. Upcoming releases from See-Saw include “Tenzing” for Apple Original Films and “Heartstopper Forever” for Netflix.
Broader Industry Context
Entourage Ventures is actively engaging in similar strategic agreements within the global film industry. It recently partnered with Italy’s Mediawan-owned Our Films, which is co-producing Paweł Pawlikowski’s “Fatherland” for Cannes, alongside global streamer Mubi.
