Rhuigi Villaseñor, founder of Rhude, is bridging the gap between sports and fashion with a strategic partnership model aimed at enhancing the fashion value of football clubs. Villaseñor, who launched Rhude in 2015, has successfully navigated the luxury streetwear scene, leading to collaborations with Bally and Zara, and his appointment as chief brand officer for Italian football club Como 1907 in 2024.
Integrating Sports and Fashion
Villaseñor's role with Como 1907 has deeply connected him with the dynamics of football apparel, identifying a gap in how sportswear giants service clubs. While major clubs like Arsenal and Real Madrid receive significant attention, smaller clubs often get overshadowed. Villaseñor proposes a new partnership model that treats clubs as cultural properties, aiming to provide better margins, visibility, and retail opportunities for these clubs.
Partnership with BasicNet
In collaboration with Lorenzo Boglione of BasicNet, a leading Italian sportswear manufacturer, Villaseñor is setting up a system to support clubs with strong identities but limited global reach. This initiative already includes 17 prominent European clubs and Tottenham Hotspur, aligning with Rhude's position in luxury fashion.
Rhude's Spring 2027 Collection
As he presented Rhude's latest collection, Villaseñor highlighted the brand's signature Marlboro-esque chevron, integrated across various pieces. The collection includes suede slipper sneakers, a bronze MA-1 jacket, and a black leather field jacket. Other standout items are rugby jerseys, waffle henleys, and a linen jumpsuit featuring a Neapolitan-style chalk stripe. A blue and red striped terry top merges French bouclé tailoring with tech-inspired gorpcore elements.
Villaseñor remains optimistic about Rhude's future, expressing his belief that curiosity will fuel continued success. Rhude continues to thrive at the center of Villaseñor's creative vision, while his work in sportswear expands his brand's influence.
