PixVerse, a Singapore-based video-generation startup, announced raising $439 million in its Series C extension, pushing its valuation past $2 billion. The company aims to use the funds to expand its world model offering globally.

Funding Details

The initial Series C round, led by CDH Investments, closed in March with an undisclosed amount, but Bloomberg estimated it around $300 million. The extension round saw participation from investors such as Alibaba, Lollapalooza Capital, Ivy Capital, Grand Mount Capital, Eastern Bell Capital, Mirae Asset, BlueFocus, and CloudAlpha. Returning investors included iGlobe Partners and OCBC's Lion X Ventures.

Founders and Products

Founded in 2023 by Wang Changhu and Jaden Xie, PixVerse offers various models: the V-Series for consumer and API use, the C-Series for professional film and commercial workflows, and the R-Series for game development and world building. Users can generate videos up to 4k resolution with integrated audio. The company reports 150 million registered users and over 15 million active monthly users.

Market Position and Strategy

Despite limited competition in high-quality video models, Xie noted, "OpenAI exited the business when they shut down Sora 2. Other companies like Meta and Tencent are not able to create high-quality video models." The startup's strength lies in data labeling, a skill honed by Changhu's experience at ByteDance, where he contributed to TikTok's recommendation algorithm.

Future Plans

PixVerse aims to expand enterprise outreach and has partnered with Alibaba for deploying video-generation features. This year, it plans to launch a new V-Series model and an updated world model. The company currently employs 150 people in Singapore, Beijing, and Shanghai, and plans to hire more researchers and go-to-market staff.

While confident in its offerings, PixVerse faces competition from ByteDance's Seedance, Dr. Wei Liu's Video Rebirth, and Kling AI, as well as Western players like Midjourney, Runway, and Luma.
