Budapest-based production company Hero Squared is seeking partners at the Cannes Market for Love Cubed, its label focusing on commercials, music videos, and independently financed films.
Leadership and Partnerships
Love Cubed is helmed by Jonathan Halperyn, formerly of Focus Features, and Daniel Kresmery, formerly of Korda Studios. The duo has engaged veteran producer-director Vandad Kashefi as a partner. Kresmery stated, "Vandad is the perfect partner to work with agencies and creatives, and to dig deep into the production concept of the project."
Introducing 'Controllers'
The company is advancing "Controllers", a Canadian-Hungarian co-production, in collaboration with Jonathan Vanger at Wishing Tree, Veronica Ferres' Construction Films, and Arielle Elwes and Oscar winner Cassian Elwes at Elevated, supported by Telefilm Canada. Halperyn and Kresmery will produce alongside Vanger, with Kashefi co-producing. Myriad Pictures is handling international sales.
"Controllers" marks the feature directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker Adam Azimov. The horror-thriller is set after a devastating outbreak that isolates a small family on a remote farm. The story follows two sisters, raised with a fear of the "Controllers"—infected individuals who manipulate others through touch. As a stranger enters their lives, tensions rise, and they question their beliefs about the outside world.
Production Background
Described as "atmospheric, intimate and unsettling," the producers highlight the film's blend of psychological horror with dystopian suspense, exploring themes of family, isolation, and control. The team behind Love Cubed and Hero Squared has produced or co-produced over 30 features and series, including "Dust Bunny" and the International Emmy-winning "Fallen." Previous releases include Brandon Cronenberg's "Infinity Pool" and "Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris."
Love Cubed's Diverse Portfolio
Love Cubed has serviced five feature films and nine high-end commercial spots. Their work includes podcasts, EPKs, interactive media, and innovative productions like a multinational shoot for the Las Vegas Sphere with Lenovo and Formula 1. The company also earned a 2026 Grammy nomination for OK Go's single-take music video "Love."
Halperyn emphasized their commitment to commercials, music videos, and indie features that require a bespoke approach. Kashefi added, "Love Cubed is built on a genuine love for the craft, with an ethos that goes beyond simple service with an aim to forge creatively driven, filmmaker-centric partnerships."
