Jeremy Allen White takes on the role of Rotta the Hutt, Jabba's son, in 'The Mandalorian and Grogu', marking a surprising addition to the Star Wars universe.
White's Transformation into Rotta
Known for his role in 'The Bear', White portrays Rotta as a muscular gladiator, a stark contrast to his father's infamous slug-like appearance. The storyline involves the New Republic enlisting Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and Grogu to rescue Rotta in exchange for information from the Hutt clan.
Chef Connection with Jon Favreau
At the Los Angeles premiere, director Jon Favreau explained White's casting, mentioning their shared history of playing chefs on screen. Favreau, who wrote and directed the 2014 film 'Chef', commented, “I’ve liked his work before 'The Bear', in 'Shameless'. He brings a lot of humanity and vulnerability to his roles, making him perfect for grounding this character.”
Star Wars Returns to the Big Screen
'The Mandalorian and Grogu' is the first Star Wars film in seven years, transitioning from three successful Disney+ seasons. Pascal and Grogu return with their iconic father-son dynamic, with Pascal's face more visible than in previous appearances.
Favreau noted his long collaboration with Pascal, saying, “He’s grown into one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Now, we’ve managed to feature him out of the helmet more in this film, even in action sequences.”
Sigourney Weaver Joins the Cast
The film also features Sigourney Weaver as a leader of the New Republic's Adelphi Rangers, collaborating with Pascal's character. Weaver expressed her excitement about joining the Star Wars franchise, saying, “It’s such a joy to visit a different universe. 'Alien' characters aren’t as friendly. But I’ve always been a fan of Star Wars.”
'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' hits theaters on May 22.
