Jack Schlossberg is opening up about the profound impact of losing his sister, Tatiana Schlossberg, who passed away in December at the age of 35 after a battle with cancer.
Jack Schlossberg’s Candid Reflections
Currently campaigning to represent New York’s 12th congressional district, Schlossberg shared with Vanity Fair how he is grappling with his sister's loss. “I don’t think I’ll ever process it. The world will never be the same for me, not only since she passed away but since she was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago,” he said.
A Profound Sibling Bond
Schlossberg described Tatiana as his best friend, stating, “We could finish each other’s sentences. No one loved me or was a bigger fan of me than my sister. I miss her all the time.” Her untimely death propels him to make the most of his life, driven by the realization that it could have been him. He feels an obligation to honor her by striving for success and aiding in cancer research.
“I intend to honor her by pursuing public service, a noble profession that I would be fantastic at serving this district as,” Schlossberg added. He emphasized that Tatiana supported his political ambitions, saying, “She wanted me to win.”
Tatiana’s Impact and Career
Tatiana and Jack are the children of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, and grandchildren of President John F. Kennedy. Her death was announced on December 30 through the JFK Library Foundation’s Instagram, with a heartfelt message from her family.
In an essay for The New Yorker, Tatiana revealed her diagnosis with acute myeloid leukemia during her daughter’s birth in May 2024. Despite treatments including chemotherapy and a bone-marrow transplant, the cancer relapsed. Her brother Jack, although only a half-match, eagerly sought ways to help her fight.
Throughout her career, Tatiana was an environmental journalist with contributions to The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, and Bloomberg. She authored Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don’t Know You Have, highlighting her dedication to environmental issues.
Family Support and Memories
Tatiana credited her family with unwavering support, especially during her treatments. “My parents and my brother and sister, too, have been raising my children and sitting in my various hospital rooms almost every day for the last year and a half,” she wrote, acknowledging their efforts to protect her from additional pain.
Jack Schlossberg’s reflections underscore the indelible mark his sister left on his life, inspiring him to live fully and honor her legacy through his career and advocacy.
