Inga Ibsdotter Lilleas, known for her Oscar-nominated role in "Sentimental Value," will star alongside Wagner Moura in the Brazilian film "The Outsider" ("A Estrangeira"), produced by Maria Farinha Filmes. Lilleas will play the central role in this project.

Uniting Oscar-Nominated Talent

"The Outsider" brings together stars from two major non-English language films at this year's Academy Awards. The film is written and directed by Brazilian filmmaker Sandra Delgado, known for her work on Disney’s "Maria: The Outlaw Legend." Moura, who was Oscar-nominated for "The Secret Agent," serves as an executive producer and will play a key role.

An Intimate Biopic

Delgado's debut fiction feature is an "intimate biopic" of photographer Claudia Andujar, portrayed by Lilleas. Andujar, a Swiss-born Brazilian artist and activist, survived the Holocaust and found a new life in Brazil, where she documented the Yanomami people through her photography.

Her work became a form of resistance during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the 1970s, especially when a highway threatened Yanomami lands. Her photographs are part of the permanent collections at the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Tate in the U.K. They are also featured in a dedicated gallery in Brazil’s Inhotim.

Bringing Important Stories to Screen

Lilleas expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I’m so happy to be part of telling Claudia’s story, and the story of the Yanomami people." Delgado noted Lilleas’ ability to embody both Andujar’s European roots and her connection to Brazil. Moura added, "‘The Outsider’ is a film I can’t wait to see on screen. It represents a powerful story with a vital struggle."

Mariana Oliva, co-CEO of Maria Farinha Filmes, praised Lilleas' "magnetic presence on screen" and the "boundless" character crafted by Delgado’s writing.

Maria Farinha Filmes' Expanding Portfolio

Maria Farinha Filmes, known for the hit Amazon-set thriller "Aruanas" and the Netflix documentary "The Beginning of Life," is working on several projects. These include "The Girl Who Could Fly," about gymnast Daiane dos Santos, co-produced with Viola Davis’ Ashé Ventures, and "Elza," a documentary on singer Elza Soares.

In 2024, Maria Farinha Films expanded by launching the Los Angeles-based MFF & Co, acquiring a stake in London’s Violet Films. Upcoming projects at MFF & Co include "Possible," "Pegasus," "Fail-Safe," and "Esperanza." They also announced adaptations of Globo telenovelas for North American audiences by writers Alexander Maggio, Jenny Lynn, and Ted Sullivan.
