Italy’s I Wonder Pictures is expanding its production portfolio with new projects from acclaimed European directors Radu Jude, Gábor Reisz, and Teemu Nikki. The Bologna-based company, known for its distribution success, has launched a new production arm named All at Once, led by Roberto Pisoni, former Sky Italy executive.
New Production Arm: All at Once
Last year, I Wonder Pictures took a significant step by appointing Roberto Pisoni to lead its production efforts. The company aims to integrate its audience engagement expertise into film production, an approach emphasized by CEO Andrea Romeo. According to Romeo, the strategy focuses on how films are developed and brought to audiences, ensuring they resonate from the outset.
Pisoni commented on the unique nature of their projects, highlighting a common thread of high craftsmanship and a fresh take on contemporary European issues.
International Projects on the Horizon
Among the international projects, Radu Jude, renowned for “Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn,” is working on a new film exploring sociopolitical themes in Europe. This untitled project is being co-produced with Bucharest-based Saga Film, marking I Wonder’s collaboration with Romanian filmmakers.
Hungarian director Gábor Reisz is also on board with his film “Ember végez,” co-written with Éva Schulze. The production, with Budapest’s Proton Cinema, recently completed shooting, featuring Marcello Fonte in a cameo role. Fonte is known for his Cannes-winning performance in “Dogman.”
Continuing Collaborations
I Wonder Pictures is extending its partnership with Finnish director Teemu Nikki and producer Jani Pösö with “200 Liters of Gold,” a sequel to “100 Liters of Gold.” Set in Sysmä, Finland, the film follows sisters Pirkko and Taina through personal challenges and brewing competitions.
As I Wonder Pictures bridges its distribution experience into production, it remains committed to crafting films that engage and reflect contemporary European narratives, leveraging its established market presence to support new cinematic voices.
