Google has rolled out its latest update: Gemini Intelligence, aimed at enhancing functionality on Android devices. Announced during a pre-I/O Android showcase, Gemini Intelligence will integrate into various parts of the Android ecosystem, including Chrome, autofill suggestions, and select apps.
Gemini Intelligence Unveiled
Ben Greenwood, Google's director of Android experiences, describes Gemini Intelligence as bringing the best of Gemini to advanced Android devices. The features, available on premium phones like the Galaxy S26 series, bundle existing and new capabilities under a unified brand.
One of the key features, task automation, is expanding its reach. Previously limited to rideshare and food delivery apps, it will soon support a broader range of applications.
Multimodal Capabilities and Create My Widget
Gemini Intelligence now includes multimodality, allowing users to input screengrabs or photos alongside text and voice prompts. This enables, for instance, adding items from a screenshot of a grocery list directly to a shopping cart.
Another innovation is Create My Widget, a feature enabling users to describe desired functionalities in natural language, prompting AI to generate custom widgets. Examples include a weather widget tailored for cyclists or a recipe dashboard. These widgets are also compatible with Wear OS watches.
Integration with Chrome and Autofill
Gemini features from Chrome's desktop version are coming to Android, including a Gemini button for sharing webpage contents and direct queries within the browser. Subscribers to Google’s AI Pro or Ultra plans will have access to auto browse, assisting with tasks such as booking appointments, starting in late June.
Additionally, Gemini will offer optional integration with Android's autofill, utilizing Personal Intelligence to pull relevant information from services like Google Photos and Gmail.
Rollout Timeline
Gemini Intelligence features will gradually roll out throughout the year, with Galaxy and Pixel phones first in line for updates this summer.
Greenwood emphasizes that these updates will continue to evolve as they become available, beginning with Android's premium devices.
