Fasten Films, led by Adrià Monés, has announced a new slate of films featuring Catalan talents Mar Coll, María M. Bayona, Adrià Garcia, and Nely Reguera, as well as debut features from Víctor Alonso-Berbel, Jordi Boquet, Carlos Lechuga, and Oriol Pérez.
Mar Coll's 'Dasha'
Mar Coll is set to direct 'Dasha', a mafia thriller and black comedy set in Lloret de Mar during the 2000s. Monés describes it as a 'dream project' with screenwriters Valentina Viso and Nataliya Kolesova contributing to the bold new step for Coll.
María M. Bayona's 'The First Witch'
Following her English-language debut 'The End of It', María M. Bayona will shoot 'The First Witch' in Catalan. Set in the Pyrenees, the film combines emotional precision and genre ambition, showcasing Bayona's unique voice in Spanish cinema.
Adrià Garcia and Nely Reguera Projects
Adrià Garcia's 'Sira and the Hidden Arcadia' is Fasten's first family animated feature, mixing 2D, 3D, and stop motion. Nely Reguera's 'Teresa Up in Arms' is a dramatic comedy that subverts the traditional stepmother archetype, co-written with Eduard Sola and Valentina Viso.
Expanding Catalan Cinema
Fasten Films is leveraging support from Catalonia’s ICEC film-TV agency and its Minority Co-Production Feature Film Fund. Monés emphasizes ambition, genre, and artistic growth, with projects like 'The End of It' showcasing international co-productions and significant financing efforts.
Monés told Variety that Fasten Films' new slate embodies cinema that is 'ambitious, original, and unafraid,' aiming to broaden Catalan cinema's audience while maintaining its artistic roots.
