Drake has released three new albums simultaneously, aiming to reclaim chart dominance after his publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar.

Triple Album Release

The albums, Iceman, Maid of Honour, and Habibti, mark his first solo releases since Lamar's 2024 hit, “Not Like Us.” Industry watchers anticipate Drake could replicate Michael Jackson's posthumous feat of holding the top three Billboard album slots.

Mixed Reception and Strategy

Drake's commercial strength is well-established, yet critical reception has been mixed since 2016’s Views. While he's not a Grammy favorite like Lamar or Jay-Z, with five wins compared to their 27 and 25 respectively, his streaming prowess is unmatched. On Spotify, Drake ranks third in all-time streams, trailing only Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny. In 2025, he was Spotify’s most-streamed hip-hop artist globally and boasts 333 million RIAA-certified units.

Industry and Fan Reactions

Despite his streaming success, industry voices question the impact of this release strategy on his legacy. Sowmya Krishnamurthy, music journalist and author, commented on Twitter, “One nice, edited, and well-sequenced classic album is what was asked for. Three Drake albums screams of manipulating the algorithm and streaming stats.” She argued that while chart achievements might please core fans, they might not enhance his cultural standing.

It's feasible Drake will have three albums on the Billboard 200. His fanboys will see that as a win. He's bigger than Michael Jackson. He beat DMX and Pac's record. Sadly, it won't earn him the legacy or respect he really wants. Chasing algorithms and streams is a losing game.

Legal and Contractual Implications

Drake's recent legal actions against his and Lamar’s record company over “Not Like Us” were criticized as undermining hip-hop’s creative ethos. Speculation suggests the album releases might help fulfill contractual obligations with Republic Records, though his team and UMG have not commented on these claims. The volume of material is consistent with a broader trend in the industry of releasing extensive works to maximize streaming revenue.
