Joining the 'Yellowstone' Universe
Bening was approached by the creators of 'Dutton Ranch', who shared their vision and storyline. "I had watched 'Yellowstone'," Bening said. The involvement of Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Ed Harris intrigued her, drawing her to the character Beulah, a rancher longing for love amidst personal turmoil.
Developing Beulah's Character
To build Beulah, Bening visited Fort Worth and met a local rancher. She also drew inspiration from Texas journalist Molly Ivins and former governor Ann Richards, crafting a character grounded in Texas history. "I spent a lot of time talking with our showrunner, Chad Feehan, about Beulah's history and the ranch's legacy," Bening explained.
Perfecting the Accent and Wardrobe
Bening's process involved listening to different Texas accents, noting, "Regional accents are changing, so I worked out what felt natural for the character." Her wardrobe was equally transformative. "I learned the level of bling typical for Texas women," she remarked, enjoying the cultural immersion.
On-Screen Chemistry and Setting
Bening praised her experience working alongside Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, stating, "I became part of this group." Filming in Texas was a highlight, as Bening enjoyed the authenticity it brought to her performance. "It was a joy to be in the ranch world and fresh air," she shared.

Bening described Beulah's storyline as one of "increasing desperation," as the character strives to hold her family and relationships together.
